UnKoch My Campus co-founder and Director of Campaigns, Samantha Parsons, is transitioning from the Unkoch Team as paid staff and moving to serve the team as an advisor on future work. While our team will miss working with our favorite Capricorn, we are excited and supportive of Samantha taking space to rest, dream, and plan her next big project.
It is not an overstatement to say that Samantha Parsons' passionate drive, commitment to organizers of all backgrounds, and razor-sharp focus to disrupt corporate corruption through UnKoch My Campus has forever changed the field. Samantha's eight-year-long investment to fight undue donor influence and dark money within higher education, the judiciary, k-12, and the prison system is a tremendous gift to so many across multiple movement spaces. Because of Samantha, student and faculty activists are rising against those who seek to harm our democracy and leverage higher education for private corporate gain.
Join us in honoring Samantha's work with a donation as a measure of gratitude for all that Samantha has contributed to the UnKoch My Campus movement over the past 8 years.
Samantha's next steps include starting a community garden in her hometown and offering educational programs on sustainability, agriculture, and racial justice to young people.
"I aim to use this space to facilitate anti-oppression training, political education, and mutual aid opportunities in my predominately-white, rural, working-class community. The corporate wealth-class continues to hoodwink us rural folks and it is time to put a stop to it. My vision includes redneck folks from the country like me fighting for justice instead of lining the pockets of Donald Trump and those like him. I believe I am uniquely positioned to practice this form of culture-change work— why not start with getting our hands literally and philosophically dirty? Change work, after all, does require rolling up your sleeves and getting a little messy. "
